Gunmen on Sunday shot and killed a policeman and one other person in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The incident, which happened on Sunday at about 7.45am, took place at Amadi-Ama Town, causing pandemonium around the area as passers-by scampered for safety. Four armed men, according to an eyewitness, stormed the area and shot at a policeman and a youth suspect to be a member of a cult group. The youth, who was in a pool of his blood after he was hit by the armed gang, was later identified as Gift, alleged to be a member of Greenlander. It was learnt that while Gift died on the spot, the policeman was said to have died after being rushed to a nearby hospital within the state capital. Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan vowed to hunt down those behind "heinous" attacks that killed at least 120 at the mosque of an Islamic leader who issued a call to arms against Boko Haram. 59 passengers and four crew members aboard an Overland Airlines plane on Saturday escaped death, as the aircraft with registration number, 051175/1176, crash landed at the Ilorin International Airport in Kwara State. Thousands of residents from Gubio town in Borno State yesterday fled to Maiduguri, the state capital after suspected members of the Boko Haram sect reportedly sent them a letter warning of an imminent attack. The Nigerian Prisons Service (NIPS) said it had re-arrested nine of the 144 inmates that escaped during the Nov. 3 gunmen attack on Koton Karfe Prison in Kogi. The Controller of Prisons in the state, Mr Adam Omale, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lokoja, said the prisoners were recaptured in Kogi and neighbouring states. Omale also said that 22 of the fleeing inmates had returned to the prison on their own. He said among those re-arrested were six convicts while the remaining ones were awaiting trial. He said that the service was on the trail of 113 inmates still on the run, and assured that all of them would soon be recaptured. A presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Rabiu Kwankwaso has held closed-door meeting with former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta. Kwankwaso at the weekend visited Obasanjo in the company of his associates, ahead of the 2015 election. Although the details of the meeting, which lasted for 30 minutes, was not diclosed to journalists, it is believed to be in connection with the choice of presidential candidate of the APC. Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had twice in the last two months visited Obasanjo, whose advice the party craves on the forthcoming elections. The Department of State Services (DSS) has disclosed why it raided a building located at No.10, Bola Ajbola street, Allen Avenue, Lagos, said to belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the DSS, its operatives invaded the building, following a petition alleging "unwholesome activities". The operation has however yielded fruit, as the DSS said on Sunday in a statement, that it has arrested some suspects in Lagos, allegedly cloning INEC's Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs). "The petition alleged that those behind the activities were cloning INEC Permanent Voters Card with the intention of hacking into INEC data base, corrupting it and replacing them with their own data," said spokeswoman of the service, Ms Marilyn Ogar in the statement.
