A major tragedy was averted yesterday in Lagos, when a man jumped into the river on the Mile Two Bridge in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area. The unidentified man, according to eyewitnesses, stood on the bridge for some minutes, loudly expressed bitterness over his sufferings and how things had gone bad for him and his helplessness. He was said to have mentioned Buhari repeatedly, muttered some other words before he finally took the terrible decision, Daily Sun reports. However, the timely intervention of a passing speedboat prevented the victim, who is in his 40s, from drowning. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will soon commence the uploading of names of candidates who have been offered admission into tertiary institution on its website. The board's Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos. Ekiti State Government has cleared the air on the status of the four persons that died during the week at Egbe Dam in Gbonyin Local Government Area of the state, saying the victims were neither World Bank officials nor staff of Ekiti State Government. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, Surakat Idowu, for allegedly brutalising his five-year-old daughter with a hot iron in the Ikotun area of the state. PUNCH Metro learnt that 45-year-old Idowu, who separated from his wife in 2013, allegedly tortured the girl with an iron in the face and in the private parts on Monday. Our correspondent gathered that the girl, who stayed with her father on Kayode Toyeso Street, Liasu Road, in the Ikotun area, had been asked by her father to dispose faeces in a potty into the latrine, but she poured it on the floor. A FORTY-two-year-old lady, Mrs. Mary Matthew, was yesterday paraded by the Police in Akure, the Ondo State capital, for allegedly maltreating her late younger sister's five-year-old daughter, Precious Michael. Mary, who is a mother of six, was accused of chaining and caging the little Precious in a kiosk for five months for allegedly being possessed and suffering from an incurable disease. Police are hunting two men for raping a 27-year-old man in a park. According o Metro UK , the man was attacked as he walked through Goffs Park in Crawley, Sussex, on Friday morning by the pair. Police said that he was found at around 12.20pm by a passer by who called an ambulance and it is believed he knows his alleged attackers.
