UK seeks clarification about Kanu’s status, whereabouts from FG

The United Kingdom has asked the Federal Government to clarify the status and whereabouts of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. The British government said it had asked the government if the British national was alive or dead. However, it could not be immediately ascertained if the Federal Government had responded to the inquiries or not. The Press Officer, UK high commission in Nigeria, Joe Abuku, stated that the inquiry followed reports that Kanu had been missing since September 14, 2017 when armed soldiers stormed his residence in Abia State. Nationwide blackout in Nigeria as TCN announces total system collapse

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a total collapse of the country's electricity grid. It, however, assured that restoration of the grid was at an advanced stage and explained that the total collapse was due to tripping of three generator units at Egbin power generation station. The daily report on Nigeria's power sector stated that the grid collapsed totally on Thursday, September 28, 2017, after the country generated 3,515 megawatts of electricity the preceding day. The TCN said, "A total system collapse was recorded on September 28, 2017 at 20:03Hrs. "Reports obtained from stations and the sequence of events generated by the SCADA system indicated that the system collapse was triggered by the tripping of Egbin Units ST4, ST6 and ST5 at '20:03:15, 20:03:32 and 20:03:34' respectively. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has jokingly blamed Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, for "all the bad things" that happened to the country during his tenure between 1999 and 2007. The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has given more insights into why he opted to run for the office of the President in 2019 despite the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, zoning the slot to the North. News reports that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, is now leading Federal Government negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU is inaccurate. Media reports seemed to have misrepresented what Labor & Employment Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige meant when he spoke with reporters about the negotiations after theFederal Executive Councilmeeting on Wednesday. The Vice President had a discussion after FEC with both the Labour Minister and Education Minister Malam Adamu Adamu around the issues, but has not taken over the negotiations as widely reported. Both Ministers will continue to lead the FG- ASUU talks. The Federal Government continues to diligently pursue a prompt resolution of this dispute and is confident the matter would be resolved. The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday said that the Federal Government should be held responsible for the unions continuous strike. The union said that the way the FG was handling the development represented the mockery of global standards of university education . ASUU chairman at the University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole , who said this on a radio programme monitored in Ibadan, said the FG could end the strike by implementing the agreement it reached with the union . He explained that all that the union was demanding from the FG was to use public funds to develop public education in the country . The Nigerian economy has rallied back into growth after suffering contraction for five consecutive quarters. Official results from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) ) has shown that the economy grew at 0.55 per cent in the second quarter (Q2) of 2017, effectively removing Nigeria out of recession. According to the survey, Nigeria's GDP likely grew 1.6 per cent from a year earlier after contracting for five straight quarters. Showing his account balance and a letter he wrote to the bank requesting the money to be removed from his account, Oluh on his Facebook page wrote; "In this austere time and with the long holidays knocking, the sum of #2.7M (Two Million Seven Hundred Thousand naira) was MISTAKENLY credited into one of my "not well used" accounts 3days ago. Osinbajo Disowns Ngige Over ASUU Strike

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says contrary to the claim by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, he has not taken over negotiations with the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities. The vice president said this today through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande. Ngige had, while addressing State House reporters after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, said Osinbajo had taken over some aspects of the negotiations and discussions with the ASUU. The minister had stated: "At council today (Wednesday), the vice president has taken over some of the aspects of the negotiations and discussions. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, on Wednesday disclosed that his child is also affected by the current ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Ngige revealed this when he spoke with state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting. He said, "I have my child at home as we speak.
