President Muhammadu Buhari has again tried to allay fears that he harbours a bias against the south-east, pointing out that he appointed four senior ministers from the zone where he got only 198,000 votes in 2015. Speaking on Thursday at a dinner for chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, Buhari said he is fully aware of the issues confronting the country. Buhari said: “There is something that hit me very hard and I am happy I hit it back at somebody. Seven states of the north are only represented in my cabinet by junior ministers, ministers of state. “In south-east, I got 198,000 votes but I have four substantive ministers and seven junior ministers from there. “You are closer to the people than myself now that I have been locked up here, don’t allow anybody to talk of ethnicity. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, has disclosed that people of the state are still in fear of more attacks from Fulani herdsmen. Speaking when he received some governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Friday in Makurdi, the state capital, Ortom alleged that some communities are still under siege of Fulani herdsmen. The governor said the fear of the people was due to the continuous threat by the herdsmen who keep issuing daily threat to take over Benue land. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has debunked claims that his government runs a militia group. He spoke on Thursday in Makurdi, when the Benue Youth Prayer Group and National Union of Road Transport Workers, Benue State chapter paid him a condolence visit over recent killings. The governor described the rumour as a way of diverting attention from the actual problem. Ortom said, “the rumour is the handiwork of mischief makers who want to divert the attention of people from the killings.” He insisted that Benue does not need any militia to tackle the incessant attacks on innocent indigenes, “because the Lord God Almighty will help them to defeat their enemies”. He recalled that if he had wanted to keep a militia group, he would not have disarmed those that were in possession of illegal arms in the first place.
