DasukiGate: EFCC Closes Case Against Metuh

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday closed its case against the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh. Metuh was arraigned before Justice Okon Abang of a Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged N400m fraud. During his trial yesterday, a witness of the EFCC, Junaidu Sa’id, told the court how $47million was withdrawn from the CBN and disbursed to members of the PDP including Metuh for the purpose of the party’s presidential campaign.

According to CACOL, to force the tariff increase on the people would amount to a corrupt practice. “We note that in spite of public outcry against any hike, the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing superintended upon by Mr Babatunde Fashola, former governor of Lagos State, has gone ahead to illegally impose a tariff hike on electricity on Nigerians for services not rendered to them. This is flagrant and audacious corruption in a situation where the Federal Government claims to be fighting against corruption and illegality.

Nigerian Army Responds to the Protest of 250 Dismissed Soldiers

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday said it would not reabsorb the 250 soldiers dismissed last week for failing to join their colleagues posted to the north east, according to Premium Times. The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, said the soldiers were dismissed over gross acts of indiscipline, cowardice, and absence without leave. “The attention of the Nigerian Army has also been drawn to a set of 250 protesting dismissed soldiers in Nigerian Union of journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Kaduna, pleading through the media to be reabsorbed back again into the Nigerian Army,” Mr. Usman, a colonel, said in a statement on Tuesday.
