Teacher remanded in prison for defiling four pupils

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court sitting in Ekiti State on Monday remanded a 51-year-old teacher, Mathew Oluyede in prison custody for allegedly defiling four pupils.

Oluyede was arraigned on a one count charge of defilement.

The presiding Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade, who did not take the plea of the accused, ordered that the 51-year-old be remanded in an Ado-Ekiti prison until the next date of adjournment.

Ajibade directed that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

Testifying earlier, the prosecuting officer, Sgt. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that Oluyede committed the offence between Oct. 19 and Oct. 21 at Ayetoro-Ekiti in Ido Council Area of the state.

Oriyomi told the court that the accused defiled four minors between the ages of two and nine.

The prosecutor prayed the court to remand the accused in prison.

According to the prosecuting officer, the offence contravened Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti, 2012.

The Magistrate remanded the accused in prison while adjourning the case till Nov. 17, pending DPP’s advice.
